All aboard the glass bottom boat
This movie holds special meaning to me. As a child I spent a lot of time on the island of Catalina. I did everything from going to the Wrigley mansion to actually going on the
glass
bottom
boat
. That was my first encounter with a flying fish.
This movie has many great actors, most of which later ended up on TV sitcoms.
Doris Day is a young widow that is working for NASA and on the side as a mermaid for her father's glass bottom boat excursion business. She is inadvertently snagged by Rod Taylor who is one of the major scientists on the space project called G.I.S.M.O. Through a series of mishaps Doris Day is suspected of being a Mata Hari. The fun begins and there are spice and counterspies. Some end up in the read room.
Can Doris clear herself or will she just dig in deeper?

It's All About "The Dot And The Line."
Folk's
Until now, many in the world of mathematics have waited seemingly forever for the release of the Academy Award winning short "The Dot And The Line," which is a short included with this movie. This Chuck Jones classic has been "unobtainium" until now.
"The Dot And The Line" will be remembered for long after the "
Boat
" is sunk. Worth buying just for this.
My favorite rainy day movie
This is the film I watch on a rainy day because it always makes me laugh. Doris Day at her zany best. This case of mistaken identity is pure fun. It will be your rainy day favorite too.

The cutest of all corn
To quote Kate Winslet's character, Iris in The Holiday: "I love corny... I'm looking for corny in my life." The
Glass

Boat
is the cutest corny available in movies of the past. When I was a kid I adored Rod Taylor (and this movie) and bought the DVD partly to see him again. Everyone loves Doris Day and rightly so, but if you're looking for the ultimate leading man... this one has it! Rod Taylor, you rock!
Fun Filled Spy Comedy Starring A Perfectly Cast Doris Day
MGM's "The
Glass
Bottom
Boat
", was very timely in so many ways and really is a wonderful snapshot of much that was truly representative of the 1960's decade. The film certainly adapted a crazy premise and ensured it success by starring a vibrant Doris Day who in 1966 was still one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood with a long string of Box Office hits behind her. The film spoofed so well the then current craze for spy stories made so popular with the James Bond series of movies and by the classic television series "Get Smart". Teamed for the second time in two years with Rod Taylor after their earlier success together in 1965's "Do Not Disturb", the pair have a wonderful breezy chemistry together on screen and this time around have some truly zany plotlines to sink their teeth into. The film has that glossy and totally "mod", look to it so typical of th emid 1960's and boasts one of the best supporting casts assembled during that decade with the likes of Dick Martin, Paul Lynde, Edward Andrews, George Tobias and Alice Pearce literally stealing every scene they are in. It all rolls up into being a good looking, highly enjoyable and light hearted comedy romp which is a must for any Doris Day fan like myself and sadly seems to be a type of film which has vanished forever in the cynical Hollywood of the 21st Century.
