"down to earth" subtly foreshadowed
I just wanted to share something interesting about the soundtrack. Like others, I was struck by the emotional potency of "Down To Earth" as the credits started to roll. It was not until I got the soundtrack that I realized that part of the credit for that emotional potency actually lies in two other tracks.
If you listen closely to "Eve," which plays while
WALL
-E is watching her fly around gracefully, you can hear the same harmonic changes (a.k.a. chord progression) that appear in Down To Earth while Gabriel sings, for example, "did you feel you were tricked by the future you picked? Well, come on down." Not only that, but the main riff that the electric piano plays throughout Down To Earth also appears in Eve, although less prominently, and by another instrument that I cannot identify. Start listening at 0:30 to the track "Eve", and you'll see what I mean.
Later, during the space dance scene, the track "Define Dancing" repeats this theme, rendered in a slightly different way, but the riff is there, and so is the chord progression.
Having foreshadowed the riff and the chord progression twice in the film, it really sets Peter Gabriel up to knock the ball out of the park. Very nicely done, Newman & Gabriel!

Amazing Music
The soundtrack of
Wall
-E is astoundingly good. It has some of the best music I have ever heard, with fine precision and quality of the melodies from the orchestra that Thomas Newman has conducted.
The Best Pixar Soundtrack--
My son and I bought this soundtrack over a month ago. We have been driving around all over town playing it over and over again. And we never get bored. I don't know why, but I think it has something to do with Thomas Newman's touch. It is unworldly and frankly when you are driving around and you hear certain pieces and look out the window you feel like the music is scoring your life. it is kind of funny. My son is crazy for BNL...and sings it quite loudly! And he loves Put on your Sunday Clothes and even La Vive en Rose....he sings it just like Louis Armstrong... which is amazing since my son is 7.
GEt this soundtrack you won't be disappointed!!!!
