Scriabin as it was meant to be played
Several years ago, on a visit to Moscow, I had a chance to stop at the
Scriabin
Museum off the Arbat arcade and take in a recital.
Horowitz
's recording captures that atmosphere, of sitting in the warm drawing room of Scriabin's turn-of-the- century home, imagining what the premiere of his work must have been like to audiences who had never travelled to the harmonic world he created. That is what comes into my mind when I close my eyes and listen to this disc. Horowitz, you can tell, understood the sadness, the awe toward beauty and the determination of the human spirit that defines so many of Scriabin's works, and that the composer had to create never-before- heard harmonics to express in his own language. One of the final selections on this disc was recorded upon Horowitz's return to Russia for the first time in many years of self-imposed exile. The performance is stunning. It left me speechless for several minutes. It is one of those rare experiences where you can sense that artist inspiration has elevated a performance to a state of perfection ordinarily associated only with the divine.

Horowitz

Scriabin
`s music very well. He knows how to please listeners. But if you don`t know very well about scriabin, don`t buy it now. Buy it when you become a Scriabin lover. ( Buy another CD first, like Hamelin`s complete piano sonata.) Horowitz`s interpretation is excellent, but his interpretation is more subjective than usual pianists. Moreover, most beginners cannot catch the beauty of Scriabin`s music. Anyway,I will rate contents more conceretely. Sonata 5 :Hamelin is a little better in (0~3 minutes) Both are good.(3~9 minutes) Horowitz is better in (9~12 minutes.last part:exclusive) Preludes :Good, but there are one (unique) that exceeds this recording. Scriabin`s own recording. You can find it by clicking classic search in Amazone. Write down "Scriabin" in Performer blank, then click Search. Sound`s like god`s playing. Perfect. Sonata 3 and Etudes :Very good. Exclusive. Thank you for reading my review. Have a nice day!

The Michael Jordan of the piano
Vladimir
Horowitz
has produced a masterpiece.
Scriabin
's music has never been, and never will be played this perfectly. From the soft pianissimos in the opening Sonata to the rapid octave passages in the final Etude, Horowitz shows both the beauty and the power that Scriabin should be. He truly brings the music to life. There will never be another pianist who will be able to duplicate Horowitz's work. He was a true athlete of the piano.

A CD for sumarize your Scriabin's record library.
This CD is good for sumarize your
Scriabin
's record library because here you can find the most important pieces written by Scriabin. The music is good, but I think only Scriabin's fans enjoy it. The sonatas nš 5 and 3, are very strong. Some preludes are like the sonatas, but the others are like Chopin's ones (but stronger). However, I think the best pieces on this CD are the etudes. They are the most important pieces written by Scriabin and you can see this when you hear them, because they are prettier than the preludes or the sonatas. When I hear this etudes, I think I'm going to cry.
Horowitz
's interpretation is fantastic. He
plays
Scriabin like anybody. About the sound, it's good, but I has got some imperfections (However, we have think that some pieces were recorded a lot of years ago -1,953 or 1,956-).
