PC to MAC

What can I say but Outstanding!! I have been a PC user for over 20 years and this was my venture inot the MAC world... Its been 3 weeks and so far I have truly enjoyed the journey... I still find myself double-clicking on objects, but the tranisition has been smooth... I still have my PC and do not plan to get rid of it (Security Blanket) because I still find some things easier to do on my PC because its my baseline...:-)

Things that I like about the MACBOOK Pro:
1. Intutive nature of the program
2. Drag and drop function
3. Plug and Play
4. Tutorials
5. Lightweight

Things I do not like about the MACBOOk Pro
1. Lack of Variety of Software

Amazon promptly shipped a brand new apple macbook Pro for my college senior within one week of the order date. The laptop worked beautifully.
After returning to college, within two weeks it completely was unresponsive. However, we took it to the local apple store, received a replacement and she is happy and back to school with a working laptop. Excellent Mac Laptop

This is a strong laptop in many ways. It has the hardware to cut through demanding applications, and even SOME 3d games, but this is NOT a gaming laptop despite the video card. The case itself is strong, and the screen is crystal clear and as bright as you want to make it (keyboard has birghtness adjust for the screen and the keyboard lights). The sound is the weakspot...the onboard speakers are typical laptop power...not so much!
The touchpad is smooth and accurate. When it comes to compatibility there are no issues with other Apple products, but software wise not everything works with mac AND windows. Do some reading on the Mac OS before buying!

Excellent, but Chinese

I've owned and have been programming on Macs since 1985. I've run through every laptop during those years and I must say that with the MacBook Pro 17" is amazing. The display is dazzling - clear and crisp enough to display HD images. The keyboard is actually a pleasure to use. The iPhone type tracking has immediately spoiled me. Even the speakers finally have enough volume. It's the best in breed.

Why not 5 stars then? Apple stuff is made in China with all the usual crap about "Well, we're different, we don't allow exploitation and brutality." and are shocked, shocked to learn that the workers are exploited and brutalized. It is all so clean until someone (see MacWorld UK or the Mail) reports in from China about the conditions of the factories and the exploitation of the workers.

I abhor the fact that Macs are made in a slave state. I think Apple should be made to advertise the fact more prominently in their hip adds: Perhaps have a 12-year-old undernourished Chinese girl to represent Macs just to let you know that this product is helping to perpetuate a brutal, genocidal regime. Maybe not so hip after all.

So, great design. Terrible company. I still write Mac programs, but not with the same smugness that used to come with the marque. The Apple programmers are amazing, creative, et. al: the engineering is consistently innovative if not always good. Too bad all this talent works for Jobs and the rest of the unenlightened thugs running Apple.

So, recommendation? Learn to love Linux, but you will still be hard pressed to buy or build a computer that is manufactured by an enlightened company. Good luck.
