Wow!!! Def Leppard, At Their Absoulute Best!!

Being a long-time Def Leppard fan (since the very beginning) I have followed their musical career through the years and have heard each of their albums. As with most bands, some albums are better than others.

I definitely prefer the band's more "classic" sound (High 'N' Dry, Pyromania, Hysteria...etc.) but was still excited when I found out that they were putting out a new album. However, nothing prepared me for the musical feast that awaited.

Songs From the Sparkle Lounge is an eclectic mix of tunes that are very well thought out and meticulously executed. The guys have somehow managed to blend that classic Leppard edge with a more contemporary rock sound, and have thrown some retro 70's rock into the mix as well. It's one of those rare cases where I like every song on the cd and have a hard time picking out a favorite.

I have owned this cd for less than two weeks and have already heard it more than a dozen times. Every time I listen to it I hear something new in each of the songs. It has very quickly risen to the top of my favorite albums (all albums, not just Leppard albums) list.

Simply said, Songs From The Sparkle Lounge is nothing short of a Def Leppard musical masterpiece.
The kings of arena rock are back with a vengeance!!!

Yes Yes Yes! *Real* post-Hysteria Leppard for the Hysteria fan

Ok. I'm a Hysteria girl. Favorite song, favorite album, I never thought I'd be happy with another Leppard album again. Sure, I like a few songs from Slang, Euphoria, and Adrenalize (Hysteria Part II, anyone?), and I really enjoyed listening to Yeah, but nothing ever seemed strong again on the whole. Ok, I was really into "Desert Song" too, and X? Um...I'm kind of pretending that didn't happen. If you're with me so far, here ya go. Put this latest album on and listen to the whole darn thing. As a whole it's strong enough that you won't need to skip around.
Will they ever be able to top the pull that the song "Hysteria" has on my psyche? Of course not. It's my favorite, and I'll be forever biased. But I LOVE this album. Reviewers claiming that they boys can't write without Mutt simply have no appreciation for the musicality and talent of Def Leppard--or they prejudged the whole thing based on one name--Tim McGraw--and couldn't get passed it. Trust me, "Nine Lives" is awesome. The song brings back some of _the best_ of where the Hysteria album sound was going. "Go" has the edge of "Truth" without being a complete NIN copy. Several of the songs seem to really show the band's love of Sweet, which is good inspiration for them in my book--"Bad Actress" for instance, which is a totally hilarious pop culture commentary. Could I have lived without "Love"? Sure, but it's still a good song, and that's my "Hysteria" bias showing again.
No, there's no "Poor Some Sugar On Me' on this album. Get over it! The sound has moved on. And how sad would it be for five guys in their 40s and 50s to still be writing nothing but stadium-shakers about getting some tail? Please...

Good Album

This album is for me one def leppard's album yet written since hysteria...if you are a Def Leppard fan, you should have it, it's very good!.

Def Leppard still rocks. But this ain't no Hysteria.

Being a longtime Def leppard fans I always have high expectations for every new cd. This one, I'm very mixed on. There's more "mid-tempo", modern rock sounding material here, but not much of the signature Leppard sins-along choruses. "C'mon,C'mon," with it's T-Rex groove, hot rodded guitar chords and great sing along chorus is the highlight of the package. The most familiar "DL" sounding track here. The Tim McGraw duet on "Nine Lives" is good, but an obvious attempt to cash in on the crossover success their (once) peers Bon Jovi recieved for "Who says you can't go home". Whereas Bon Jovi has matured over the years and continue to sing about life's changes and priority changes, Def Leppard seems a bit stuck in the 80's mindset that killed the rest of the Genre. I gave it 4 stars because of production, energy and the fact that there is some very good material here and some lame material as well(ONE lackluster balled "Love", the only ballad on the entire disc. Is prob the worst ballad in Leps history. A dissapointment from a band that's written some amazing love songs). I would have liked some more groovy, rockin tunes like "C,Mon...". The rest of the album just kinda floats along.... without ever going anywhere, or leaving a mark in it's wake. Not the worst. But the Leps can do much better than this.

Pretty Good.

This is Def Leppard's best original Album since Hysteria. It will easily go platinum once the word gets out and they get some airplay. A lot of good songs, but "Love" outshines them all.
