Maverick Thermometer

This device is one of the most useful items I have ever bought. I smoke a lot of meat and also grill several times each week. Last week was icing on the cake. I was frying 4 turkeys for a church event and had the original thermometer and a candy thermometer in the grease once it became hot. The original thermometer was 50 degrees high and the candy thermometer was 25 degrees low. The maverick was right on. I will not grill or cook without it. You want make sure the meat is correctly cooked and this item is perfect for it.

Very nice

Tried a different therm. before this one. I like this one much better. Having 2 probes is great, and I have to open the grill much less now, which makes for more efficient smoking. Because of it's power and flexibility, it takes a bit of getting used to, but shouldn't be too hard to master... Highly recommend.

Just Ok

Please read MAL's review...he is dead on, but I would give it more than 1 star. It is very nice to have both a smoker and meat temperature, any serious smoker will know the importance of that feature. But I fully agree with MAL, the range is not great...I get about 40-50 feet. This may be ok with you, I personally had to use a baby monitor to listen for the alarm. It gives you no warning that it is out of range, so be careful when you first use this product. If they fixed those 2 problems it would be perfect...until then smokers will have to wait for a better product to come out.

Good, but could be improved

I like this thermometer, but like others I've had problems with the range - I'd say it's about 35-40 feet in my home. I don't like the fact that it doesn't alert you when it's lost a signal and I also don't like having to open the battery compartment door to turn on the transmitter. Improve those few things and I'd give it 5 stars. I wouldn't mind if the wires were about a foot longer too.
