IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL.
It's the most amazing sound that I've heard in a long time.
Its beauty is simply beyond my description.
I hope you could also enjoy this overwhelming musical sensation.
The music that made me cried...
I was eating at this restaurant (thai cuisine) one day. I made my orders, so i waited for the food to arrive. I could not help myself, i was so into the music that i heard playing in that restaurant. I told my sister,my mum that "can't you hear that??that!! that strings and the melody..the mood..the feel..who's the artist???" I was so moved, even when i was eating i kept on concerntrating to the music because the volume is so slow. Desperately in search of the artist's and the album's name, i told my sister to ask for the name of the album, and the cashier showed the album to me.. and the next day, i brought home the album.. pop it in my cd player. When i heard it.. track 1...
I went still for a while...then gasped for air... it was so LOVELY...
then comes track 18... when it started i was still again..then the chorus came...my jaw dropped open..tears rolled down from my eyes... i cried.. i dont know how to express that feeling i had, but the closest i could figure out is AMAZING,BREATHTAKING (literally..) & LOVELY.
The collaboration between
yo-yo
ma and
ennio
morricone
is unmistakable! truly amazing!! you can feel "it" behind the cello and the strings... BUY this one..no second thoughts! trust me, i am like that..unless i am sure it's very good... now i felt so damn glad that i bought it! You can listen to it over and over again...absolutely an album worth buying!

Two Great Musicians Collaborate
The power of exquisite movie soundtracks is exhibited by superstar composer in this field
Morricone
. Couple this with the superstar celloist Ma and one gets this magnificent effort of
Yo-Yo
playing some of Morricone's best scores.
The power and majesty of Morricone's scores soar off this disc and especially Gabriel's Oboe & The Falls from The Mission as well as scores from Moses which I am unfamiliar with but will check it out. As other reviewers have already pointed out, the Nocture from The Lady Caliph is unbelievable in its escstacy and enchantment, here heightened by Ma's passionate intonation and interpretation. He glides and powers through this music with ease and focus and thus this collusion with the composer begats a magnficent sound.
To be enjoyed!

A simple admirer of great music
I don't know where to begin!! This is a fabulous album--I never knew that cello could be played like this--I think, that between here at home and at my husband's art gallery, we have listened to this CD at least 50 times, if not more. There is not one track that I do not love! I would love an opportunity to here
Yo-Yo
Ma play songs from this album in person. We first heard it when a physician friend of ours brought it in; he told us he had one copy for his car, for his house, for his wife's car and for his office; then he brought us one. We bought one for our house, one for a friend's birthday, and one for our parent's anniversary. It has inspired us to check out more of Yo-Yo Ma's albums, and we bought two others, which are just as great. You will not be disappointed!!

Yo-Yo Ma Continues to Expand His Realm
Yo-Yo
Ma is certainly one of the premiere cellists of today and his performances in the symphony concert halls and in chamber music concerts are always illuminating and impact audiences with the incredible skill and sonority of his chosen instrument. Perhaps it is the 'Everyman' syndrome that encourages Ma to enter fields usually not taken by classical cellists, as though he wants to offer his talent for the appreciation of all audiences. He has recorded Appalachian songs, Tangos, the oriental sounds of the Silk Road, and has been featured in movie sound tracks while still performing the full spectrum of the classical repertoire. There can only be admiration for such intent.
In this CD he has collaborated with renowned movie music composer
Ennio
Morricone
creating transcriptions of the scores of such films as 'The Mission', 'Cinema Paradiso', 'The Legend of 1900', 'The Untouchables', 'The Good the Bad and the Ugly', 'Once Upon a Time in America' and others and the result is a series of 'cello concerti'. Some of these work well (the excerpts form 'The Mission' are truly beautiful, but that was one of Morricone's finest scores in the first place), and some of them sound a bit like Muzak or elevator music. Ma's playing is consistently elegant and lovely and if the content of Morricone's music is occasionally slight, then it must be remembered that this music was written as background music for visual dramas.
The recording is not truly in the classical mode, just in case Ma's devoted fans may think this is going to be deep music. But the collection is well executed and the music is never less than lovely. With that in mind the CD can be generally recommended. Grady Harp, June 05
