It's the portion control, stupid.
I can't really see how anyone can actually gain weight on this eating
plan
. As a physician, I see the consequences of obesity on a daily basis...and this is the first book I've read that can be done by virtually anyone out there.
You
don't need to be a gourmet cook or need a lot of exotic foods to make meals (unless you consider eggs, fruit, whole grains to be exotic). The exercises are very basic and can be done at home with a small investment in dumbbells if you so desire.
The vast majority of people out there don't understand portion control is the key to success. Yes, you can have a porterhouse steak for dinner with a baked potato....it just can't be 20 oz and the potato can't be the size of a melon dripping with bacon and sour cream. Yes, you can eat Ben and Jerry's....not just the whole pint in one sitting. The people that gained weight on this
diet
likely misinterpreted it as an 'eat anything you want' diet..which is not the case. The other great advantage to this is anyone can do it and everyone can ream some form of benefit from it, regardless of their physical condition.
Once men hit the 40 inch mark on the waist, the risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes starts to really take off. For women, it's 35 inches. Start taking control of
your
belly with this practical, handy book. I've had several of my diabetic patients (the motivated ones, at least) consult with a dietician who follows the general principles of the book and they've dropped their HbA1C on an average of 0.8% over the course of the past
six
months. In addition, they're lighter, have more energy, sleep better, and just feel better overall. I had to cut one lady's insulin nearly in half because she saw such an improvement in her insulin resistance.

Guaranteed weight loss
If
you
're serious about losing weight and getting in shape, I can't recommend this book enough. I have been overweight for much of my
life
and I've tried them all - low carb, low fat, low calorie -- everything. Most
plan
s will make you lose weight but if you're losing muscle too or can't
keep
the weight off, it's a waste of time. I have been following the plan outlined in this book for 9
week
s and I have lost 20 pounds. Every week without fail, I lose another two pounds. That's really the only healthy rate to lose weight because any more and you're probably losing muscle too. Considering I have been lifting weights and have put on a noticeable amount of muscle, those are really impressive results. And to be honest, I haven't been following the plan 100% to the letter. Some weeks I have more than one cheat meal, I still drink socially and some weeks I don't exercise for the recommended
six
days. But if you stick to the core of the book - eating six small meals a day with a portion of protein and good carbs in each meal, getting some exercise (a mix of weight training and cardio), you will drop weight as fast as it's healthy to. What separates this plan from the rest of the pack for me is that I enjoy most of the foods they recommend and you eat so often that you're not hungry. I find it very easy to integrate into my somewhat busy life and can see myself eating this way for the rest of my life. If you're overweight and sick of it, please give this plan a try. I would also recommend the companion book "The
Abs
Diet
: 6 Minute Meals for 6 Pack Abs" because it has tons of recipes that taste good and make it even easier.

The Abs Diet : That Works For Everyone and Keeps You Healthy
I was so amazed once I started reading this book, I learn so much about things I didn't know. Such as how the fat in
you
r system is a #1 killer. Since I started exercising and eating properly I feel so much better, not only physically, but psychologically. My family and friends has notice the difference. My husband continue to compliment me all the time (not that he didn't anyway.)I was wearing a size 26/24, now I'm wearing size 22 and thats no lie. So if there is anyone who has a problem with their weight, get the Abes

I have read most of this book. I haven't got to the exercise part yet. I do like it and believe it will lead to even healthier eating and hopefully the loss of fat in the
stomach
area as stated...at any rate, it is good information and believe that it will probably have the desired affects if followed closely. I guess the main issue I have with the book is that it seems very repetitive and speaks a lot about the reasons the "other"
diet
s don't work--which really didn't interest me--I just wanted the info on this diet. I had already dedided not to try the "other" diets, for basically the same reasons he mentions. Also, I'm not quite sure if the "one entree" dinners are complete dinners or if
you
can add side dishes or salads, although I believe salads would probably be okay.
